Our Restorative Health Approach to Autism
What is Autism?
Conversations about what is and what causes autism are controversial. Many people have passionate opinions on the topic. Regardless of what causes autism, several behavioral, biochemical, and neurological differences are observed in persons with autism.
At its core, autism is a disruption in normal neurodevelopment caused by any one of a long list of stressors (environmental toxins, genetics, injury, etc.) that creates a biochemical situation beyond the body’s ability to fully correct or compensate. Sometimes this situation is mild, and the body can partially compensate, and we see mild and even high-functioning cases of autism. Sometimes this situation is more severe, and we see very debilitating cases of autism.
The point is, if you or your child has autism, it does not really matter what the underlying cause was or how old you or your child is. The only thing that matters is restoring the brain’s ability to develop and learn.
Watch: Restoring Health in Autism
In this Health Matters Podcast episode, Dr. Dayan Goodenowe talks about what autism is and how it affects the brain and neurological function.
How We Apply Restorative Health Principles in Autism
Optimizing the health of a person with autism is all about maximizing an autistic person’s ability to effectively engage, interact, and learn in and from the world around them. From these skills, a life can be built that is unique to and rewarding for that person.
Supporting health in autism is not about fixing or changing a person with autism — it is about enabling a person with autism.
Decades of research on the neurology of autism has unambiguously and reproducibly revealed that impaired or reduced myelination is the core neurodevelopmental issue in autism. Maintaining full myelination capacity is most critical during the first five years of life. However, the importance of maintaining optimal myelination does not stop after the critical brain development in childhood, it is important at all ages. Adults with autism still suffer from insufficient myelination capacity.
When myelination is disrupted or insufficient, neurological connections fail to fully develop resulting in some areas of the brain being overactive and some areas being underactive. A person with autism learns to adapt to this situation by trying to create internal and external environments that are the most tolerable.
Supporting health in autism means restoring the brain’s ability to myelinate.
Set Your Baseline
The BioMetrix™ BioScan comprehensively measures key biochemical systems. The key biochemical deficiencies that impair the brain’s ability to perform optimal myelination are:
- Insufficient plasmalogen biosynthesis capacity
- Neuroinflammation
- Mitochondrial insufficiency
- Methyltransferase insufficiency
For adults with autism, the BioMetrix™ NeuroMRI technology uses the most advanced 3T MRI instrumentation. Nine proprietary sequence programs are utilized to measure all aspects of human brain structure and function. Key neurological systems measured by NeuroMRI that require special attention in autism include:
- Neuroinflammation
- Myelination
- Cortical thinning
- Loss of structural connectivity
- Hyper and hypo functional connectivity
- Reduced blood flow
- Biochemical deficiencies such as glutathione
- And more…
Begin Your Restorative Health Journey
The BioNutix™ Nutrition program comprehensively supplies the body with key biochemical intermediates, cofactors, and nutrients. The BioNutix™ Nutrition program is specifically designed to pass the blood-brain barrier and directly support brain cells such as neurons and oligodendrocytes to restore synaptic function and myelination and reduce brain inflammation.
A lifestyle plan is developed that is designed with you in mind. Every person has unique challenges and opportunities in their personal life. Restoring health is not a quick fix. It is a life-long endeavor. Building and optimizing a plan that you can follow for the rest of your life is critical to a successful and sustainable path of recovery.
Monitor, Improve, and Perpetuate Your Health
This isn’t a one-time fix — it’s a process of continual improvement.
The Immorta™ self-directed personal research software is a comprehensive system for tracking your health data over time. Designed to support your long-term restorative and preventive health goals, Immorta serves as your personal database. It stores all of your lab results and assessments, while also allowing you to log your diet, exercise, medications, and any other relevant health information.
The Engage™ educational and community interaction software program is designed to help you connect, learn, and grow throughout your health journey.
Engage is your gateway to a broad database of informational content covering a wide range of health and technology topics. It also connects you with a community of individuals facing similar health challenges. We are stronger together — learning from one another, offering support, and finding inspiration through shared experience. If you want to run a 4-minute mile, you train with runners who have done it. Engage is what makes perpetual health perpetually fun and rewarding.

Is This Program Right for You or Your Loved One?
- Your child has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and shows signs such as delayed speech, limited social engagement, or repetitive behaviors
- You’ve observed regression — the loss of previously acquired skills — especially following illness or inflammatory triggers
- You believe environmental factors (e.g., infections, toxins, diet, mold) may be contributing to your child’s symptoms
- You’re looking for a personalized approach that supports long-term brain development and resilience

Restorative Goals
The program aims to restore healthy brain development by addressing the biochemical root causes of autism, including chronic neuroinflammation and impaired myelination. The goal is to support communication, emotional regulation, cognitive development, and overall well-being by giving the brain the raw materials it needs to grow and adapt.
Through consistent participation in the program, many clients have achieved significant improvements. These outcomes are possible, and they reflect the core goals of the restorative approach:
Reduction in Aggression & Agitation
Improved Communication & Language
Enhanced Social Interaction & Affection
Better Sensory Processing
Increased Mobility & Physical Ability
Improved Cognitive Function & Learning
Better Behavioral Regulation
Enhanced Quality of Life for Families
Please note: Every individual’s experience is unique. While these improvements have been observed in some clients, results vary and cannot be guaranteed.
Real stories. Real impact.
Diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, and POTS, Brooke spent years in constant distress, non-verbal, aggressive, and overwhelmed by sensory input. At 17, she began Dr. Goodenowe’s restorative health protocols. Within weeks, her pain started to ease, and over two years, she has made profound gains.
The Biochemistry of MS
From a biochemical perspective, MS is a breakdown of membrane systems - especially the white matter myelin that insulates neurons and the lipid pathways that maintain it. This breakdown includes:
• Plasmalogen depletion, especially omega-9 plasmalogens critical to white matter integrity
• Impaired mitochondrial and peroxisomal function, reducing cellular energy and repair capacity
• Inflammatory and oxidative stress cascades, triggered by membrane instability
• Neurological disconnection, due to compromised neurotransmission and axonal signaling
MS isn’t caused by one single problem it’s a cascade of dysfunction, and rebuilding begins with restoring what’s missing at the molecular level.
Symptoms are real – but they’re not the starting point. Restoration starts with the core systems that make function possible.
How we treat health in MS
We dont' treat the disease. We treat the health affected by it. That means:
- Rebuilding membrane structure with lipid-based nutrients
- Supporting energy production and antioxidant capacity
- Measuring functional outcomes (not just imaging)
- Guiding each person based on their own biochemistry
