Our Restorative Health Approach to ALS
What is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis?
Managing Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) requires more than symptom care — it demands a deep understanding of what’s breaking down inside the body and a long-term commitment to support the systems still capable of recovery.
ALS begins with peroxisomal failure. Peroxisomes are cellular structures responsible for detoxifying harmful substances and making protective lipids like plasmalogens. When they fail, toxic buildup and cell damage begin., a breakdown in the cell’s ability to manage toxic stress and produce key protective molecules. This failure leads to a buildup of D-serine, which drives glutamate excitotoxicity — a harmful overstimulation that damages motor neurons. From there, a cascade of cellular dysfunction unfolds: neurons lose energy and structure, inflammation spreads, myelin breaks down, and muscle wasting accelerates.
Watch: Understanding ALS
In this lecture, Dr. Goodenowe explains the biochemistry behind ALS, including the role of peroxisomal failure, plasmalogen depletion, and the downstream effects on neuron integrity and inflammation.
How We Apply Restorative Health Principles in ALS
Set Your Baseline
We begin by measuring what’s happening inside the body of an individual diagnosed with ALS.
The BioMetrix™ BioScan comprehensively measures key biochemical systems.
The BioMetrix™ NeuroMRI technology uses the most advanced 3T MRI instrumentation. Nine proprietary sequence programs are utilized to measure all aspects of human brain structure and function.
Begin Your Restorative Health Journey
The BioNutix™ Nutrition program comprehensively supplies the body with key biochemical intermediates, cofactors, and nutrients.
Key biochemical systems that require special support in ALS include:
- Proprietary Plasmalogen precursor supplements
- Proprietary complex lipid nutrition including human optimized phosphatidylcholine
- Mitochondrial function and capacity support
- Inflammation resolving support
- And more…
A lifestyle plan is developed with you in mind. Every person has unique challenges and opportunities in their personal life. Restoring health is not a quick fix. It is a life-long endeavour. Building and optimizing a plan that you can follow for the rest of your life is critical to a successful and sustainable recovery path.
Monitor, Improve, and Perpetuate Your Health
This isn’t a one-time fix — it’s a process of continual improvement.
The Immorta™ self-directed personal research software is a comprehensive system for tracking your health data over time. Designed to support your long-term restorative and preventive health goals, Immorta serves as your personal database. It stores all of your lab results and assessments, while also allowing you to log your diet, exercise, medications, and any other relevant health information.

Engage is what makes perpetual health perpetually fun and rewarding.
What Our ALS Program Looks Like
Biochemical & Functional Assessments
We begin with objective testing to measure what’s happening inside the body. These tools help us understand how ALS is progressing and which functions are being lost.
Key assessments include:
Blood-Based Biochemical Testing
Our BioMetrix™ BioScan includes targeted blood testing for markers associated with ALS progression:
- Plasmalogen levels, often severely depleted in ALS
- D-serine elevation, associated with excitotoxicity
- Microglial activation, a marker of neuroinflammation
- Myelin basic protein (MBP), reflecting white matter integrity
- Other markers related to oxidative stress and lipid metabolism
ALS Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS)
A clinical tool used to monitor ALS progression over time. It tracks changes in core daily functions such as:
- Speech, swallowing, salivation, and breathing
- Handwriting and fine motor skills
- Walking, climbing stairs, and mobility in bed
- Sleep disturbances and need for breathing support
In conventional care, ALSFRS typically declines by ~1 point per month. In our program, we’ve observed measurable increases in ALSFRS scores over the first few months — a sign of functional improvement.
These assessments help us map how the ALS is affecting the body and allow us to track improvements over time, so we’re not just hoping something’s working. We’re measuring it.
MRI Brain Imaging
Advanced MRI imaging is used to visualize and quantify the structural damage to gray matter (cortical thinning) and white matter (myelin depletion) in the brains of our ALS clients. These assessments serve as critical tools to understand the disease's predictable progression and to monitor the efficacy of the restorative health program by showing improvements in these previously damaged areas.
Restoration & Optimization of Biochemical and Physiological Health
Our program addresses key biochemical deficiencies - especially plasmalogen depletion - through a personalized, assessment-driven nutritional strategy. These interventions are designed to support overall function, slow progression, and restore critical systems impacted by ALS.
Each client receives a custom biochemical restoration plan that may include:
- NeuroRestore Supplement Protocol, featuring:
- Omega-3 (gray matter) and omega-9 (white matter) plasmalogen precursor
- NAC, niacin, phosphatidylcholine, CoQ10, and other essential cofactors
- Dietary strategies and clean hydration (reverse osmosis, molecular hydrogen water)
To support circulation, muscle tone, recovery, and function, we incorporate a range of specialized tools and services.
These may include:
- CVAC (Cyclic Variations in Adaptive Conditioning) to stimulate cellular efficiency
- KAATSU Bands to support muscle activation and vascular growth
- BEMER Therapy to enhance microcirculation
- Movement and physical support therapies focused on mobility, posture, and independence
- Cognitive rehab and personal development sessions to support mental resilience

Restorative Goals
The program aims to restore core health functions that have been lost, addressing underlying biochemical causes like peroxisomal failure, plasmalogen depletion, and D-serine dysregulation. The goal is to counteract muscle hypermetabolism, support muscle regrowth, and ultimately observe improvements in symptoms and functional scores.
With consistent participation in the program, many clients have experienced meaningful improvements. These outcomes are possible, and they reflect the core goals of the restorative approach:
Reduced Fatigue
Improvement in Speech
Improvement in Breathing
Increased Range of Motion
Increased Strength
Increased Confidence & Resolve
Please note: Every individual’s experience is unique. While these improvements have been observed in some clients, results vary and cannot be guaranteed.
Real stories. Real impact.
These testimonials illustrate the tangible, positive impact the restorative health program is having on the daily lives and long-term outlook of individuals with ALS.
